I had an AMAZING Mother’s Day weekend!
It all kicked off Friday night with a low-key evening hanging out with the family watching Shark Tank. It’s becoming a family tradition like Survivor. I can’t explain it but I love hanging out with the kids as they get older. Parenting infants and toddlers is one thing. Watching their personalities emerge and listening to their opinions and perspectives is another and utterly fascinating to me. Ryan more than Evan right now, of course, but both of them are so fun to talk with.
I made it an early night to prepare for Saturday’s CrossFit competition.
My gym hosted an all girl event and I competed in the scaled division. It was so fun and I did really well! Better than I expected!
The first workout was:
- 21 Snatches @ 55 lbs
- 21 Hanging Knee Raises
- 15 Snatches @ 55 lbs
- 15 Hanging Knee Raises
- 9 Snatches @ 55 lbs
- 9 Hanging Knee Raises
I wasn’t too worried about the snatches as 55 lbs is fairly light for me. The knee raises, however, scare me. Anything on the bar is my kryptonite. I’m getting better as I get stronger but it’s still a struggle.
That being said, I KILLED it! Finishing in 4:05 and placing 6th in that round.
The second workout was the one I feared the most: 8 Minutes to establish a heavy Bear complex (1 clean+1 front squat+1 shoulder to overhead+1 back squat+1 behind shoulder to overhead) — click here to see a demo.
I ran through the complex a couple times to practice and kept failing on the behind the shoulder to overhead at 95 lbs. I knew most of the girls were going to be able to get much heavier so I mentally prepared to be in the bottom of the pack.
Well… I KILLED IT!
I successfully completed the complex with 90 lbs, 95 lbs, 105 lbs, 115 lbs, and 120 lbs…
I was on cloud nine! I couldn’t believe it!
With a minute left I loaded 125 lbs on the bar and did my best…
I almost did but failed on the behind the shoulder to overhead. I was SO CLOSE too! I totally think I could have gotten it!
I ended up tying for 11th in this round with my last successful lift of 120 lbs.
The last workout was:
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand
- 10 burpees
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand
- 8 burpees
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand
- 6 burpees
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand
- 4 burpees
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand
- 2 burpees
- Farmer carry 50′ with 85lbs in each hand to finish line
I was actually looking forward to this one as I can handle farmers carries pretty well. I did really well finishing in 3:48 coming in 10th for the round.
My friend at the gym got a little clip and you can see me coming in for the round of 6 burpees just behind the leader in my heat.
After all 3 rounds I ended up finishing 8th overall out of 35 athletes. I’m not going to lie, I was super proud of myself. I’m one of the older athletes who competed and I was able to hold my own with some really impressive, physically fit young women.
This comp has motivated me even more to keep doing what I’m doing. I really enjoy this style of competition. It ranks you among other athletes but you are mostly competing with yourself.
Isn’t that true with most things?
After the competition my parents came down Saturday night so we could spend Mother’s Day together.
I woke up and made chocolate muffins which came out fabulous!
Then I took my Mom for a massage at a local spa before the family went out to a late Brunch.
We had a blast!
The rest of the day was pretty low-key. Now I’m watching Game of Thrones and then I’ll be staying up to late to see Madmen. Sunday night always has the best TV!
I took the weekend off from food journaling again. I’ll be back at it tomorrow.
Hope you had a great weekend!
