Aging and other Wednesday Rambles

I posted this on my Facebook page earlier today but I probably should have made it a blog post:

“Aging isn’t a sentence that kicks into affect at exactly 27, 33, or forty years of age. It’s a process that can be slowed, and it’s a choice you make. In fact, aging is the accumulation of all the choices, decisions, and actions you take over the course of your lifetime.

The more consistently your daily choices and actions are health promoting, the more prolonged your experience of the fountain of youth will be. The opposite is also true. The poorer the choices you make and the harder you treat your body, the more rapidly aging sets in.”

That’s from this article and although she’s a little harsh, I agree with most of what she said.

I started running at 31.
I was 35 when I ran my first Tough Mudder — Done 6 more since.
Competed in my first CrossFit comp at 36. — Done 7 since
I turn 39 in 2 months and I I feel amazing! Hands down in the best shape of my life. I feel strong, empowered, and confident.

I also feel like I’ve only just begun. Who know’s what I’m really capable of!

This is slowly becoming a new passion of mine: fitness at any age. I love setting the foundation for my kids but I also love inspiring people who don’t think they are exercisers to become exercisers because I was one of those people!

Plus I really do think it’s super duper important as we age to stay in shape and I don’t mean “skinny in shape.” I mean strength, hearth health, and flexibility.

Anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox about that. The article just really resonated with me.

In other news…

It was an awesomely busy day! Time for bed.

  • 6 p.m. Turkey burger and grilled sugar snap peas.
  • 8 p.m. the rest of my Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter Avocado Pudding — I wanted to see how it kept in the fridge.

Activity Journal

  • 6 a.m. 400m run
    Back Squat

    10 @ 83 lbs
    10 @ 103 lbs
    5 @ 123 lbs
    10 @ 133 lbs <– I can’t believe I did it! That was my 1 rep for a loooong time!
    10 @ 113 lbs
    10 @ 113 lbs
Today’s workout was 100 push press @ 95lbs. Every time you took a break you were supposed to do 20 double unders. I modified/scaled and used 65 lbs. Instead of jumping rope I rowed 100m every time I broke because my shins where bothering me a little. When I increase my double under frequency my calves and shins take a beating, I needed a break from the impact.
  • 8 a.m. 2 mile walk to and from Evan’s school
  • 3:30 p.m. 1 mile run to keep up the #wycwyc #milestreak!
