Highs and Lows of Training - The Rundown

I admit that May started off rough.

But a bad day {all right a bad week} doesn’t mean it has to be a bad month. Life is so much more than just pushing through the rough patches…yup that’s a lesson I learned from running. So here’s the run down of training lately.

Low: The fatigue that I remember from when I was super sick a few years ago hit hard. While that was frustrating, it also mentally and emotionally takes me back to a rough space and ignites all kinds of fears, so it took me a beat to get back on track. Then I remembered that I could take a step back..relax, refuel and restart.
Make a choice before you hit bottom

High: BUT through it all I remained committed to my #SpringTraining goal of getting in a minimum of 2 weekly strength workout sessions. I shared with you the Mountain Athletics App which helped give me some ideas for pushing my limits, plus of course my new love affair with the TRX.

High: I upped the juices and the rest and finally on the 11th started to feel back to normal. Wohoo just days before heading to Chicago for 13.1.  {Best thing about hats..not only do they block the sun, but they make great gutters when you end up in a rain storm}North Face HatLow: Then of course many of you remember this…yup greeting the sidewalk with my full body. I wasn’t kissing the ground post cruise, I was sprawled out trying not to scream like a toddler with skinned knees. {and yes I stopped my watch!}
When you fall...stop your watchHigh: My initial plan to be PR ready, but 10 days of work travel followed by 10 days of being sick meant instead I was able to spend the day running with a friend.

You know you’ve found great gear when just days after getting it you use it for a race! I’m in love with the feel and fit of my Mountain Athletics from The North Face, so umm yeah you should expect to see it in a lot of photos. Chicago Spring Half MarathonHigh: Next up time to see family in KC! All right really in the boonies, which I recapped here.

Low: I can’t believe how quickly May went! Which lead immediately in to feeling like I started running on the face of the sun in June. Thank you Florida for keeping me and my goals humble. Running on sunshine - a motto for the summer from RunToTheFinish.com

High: I feel supremely motivated to race right now, which is totally abnormal, so I wish I was near some of the free North Face events that are going on…since I’m not, I think this might finally be the perfect summer to get involved with some virtual racing.

High: Though I didn’t follow everything in the 6 week app, I did enjoy cross training consistently. Including a little outing to the driving range with D.
