Mad Men, Mad Max and The Babadook

Another kick a$$ weekend! I’m really getting into a groove of disconnecting Friday night to seize the weekend with friends and family and I love it.

This Friday The Husband took Ryan to his soccer game while I spent time with Evan. We went for frozen yogurt and then stopped by my gym for a party. One of our trainers is moving and there was a little get together to say goodbye. Evan had a blast running around with the gym dogs and my friends daughter.

Later that night I had a few friends over to watch The Babadook, an Australian horror movie that came out last year with amazing reviews. If you don’t know, I’m a HUGE horror movie fan. The Husband isn’t but I have a few friends that love them as much as I do so we try to get together every few months to watch one.

I’m glad I didn’t write about The Babadook right away because it’s one of those movies that sticks with you. The more I think about it the more I appreciate it. It had a few good scares but overall it was more a symbolic look at grief. I really enjoyed it.

Yesterday started off at the gym with a fun partner workout. I love spending Saturday mornings there when I can but  The Husband usually has tennis or Ryan Soccer, so I have to cut the morning short.

I came home, made the kids a snack while we played Memory…

a quick T-shirt battle…

and some pomegranate eating (notice the spots on their face and arm…)

and then we got dressed and headed to our favorite local trails for a river walk.

The kids REALLY love it there.

Thumbs Up

The rest of Saturday afternoon was pretty relaxing and we had a babysitter line up for date night!

The Husband and I have been patiently waiting for Mad Max: Fury Road to come out. Well, actually, I’ve been waiting patiently, he recently read the great reviews and then agreed we had see it.

We both LOVED IT! Charlize Theron is one of my favorite actresses and I love Tom Hardy too. Both did an amazing job. It was non-stop action and just breathtaking to see what they accomplished. Some of the scenes were insane. I can’t comprehend how they filmed them.

This morning The Boys and I hung out and baking and playing games.

I made a Banana-Flax Cake for breakfast and Chocolate Breakfast muffins for the week. I also hard boiled eggs so I can make Avocado Toast – my new obsession!

After a relaxing afternoon it was time to get ready for our second Sunday Dinner with friends! The Husband took the boys to play Mini-golf while I blasted music and cleaned up.

This time I made wings, baked beans, pufferfish cauliflower and roasted potatoes.

My friend brought some shrimp and fish too.

The kids played. We talked. It was so nice! After everyone left Evan asked if anyone was coming over tomorrow and it made me smile.

Ok, that’s it from me. Mad Men is coming on and The Husband and I are making a night of it. We’ve been fans since the beginning.
