What Would Your Future Self Do?

I’m feeling so much better today than yesterday. After a long, busy, non-stop day I opened the mail to find a letter from the IRS that my tax returns weren’t filed properly.  The error was in my favor but it didn’t matter. This is the second big mess up my accounting firm made this year and it just put me over the edge.

Sometimes I just feel like other people don’t hold up their end of the bargain — FitBloggin’ speaker back-outs, emails never returned, bookkeepers not reporting tax payments, it was one of those days and I was just really frustrated.

But I’m over it now. Moving on.

I have 2 things I want to share that made me think of one of my favorite chapters in What You Can When You Can —  Fake it ‘Till You Make It.

The first was this awesome submission we got through wycwyc.com from Ines:

This morning I thought… what would my future self do, when I make it. The result was: Going outside and have a run before you go to work and have a good breakfast afterwards. So that’s what I did… I when jogging for 15 min. for starters had a breakfast and a shower and went to work. What a nice approach to think that you can do it all now already and you do not have to wait until you are there… Thanks for inspiration. :)

So simple yet SO POWERFUL.

Just think: If you always did what your future fit/skinny/strong/successful/at goal/whatever you are waiting for self would do, how different would your life be?

How would you talk to yourself? How would you eat? How would you dress? How would you act?

The second thing I wanted to share was this tweet:

Ahh, the observations of a child. Only 1 little letter different yet we act as if they are worlds apart.

On that note I’m passing the buck to you today for a good old fashioned question of the week. I REALLY want you to think about what your future-at-goal self would do that you aren’t doing right now. Comment if you are up to it and share the WHY.

Why are you waiting?

Food Journal

  • 7:15 a.m. Post-workout shake (1 scoop).
  • 8:00 a.m. Chocolate Muffin — I posted the recipe! Click here!
  • 9:30 a.m. Weird breakfast– Shirataki noodles with sausage and kale — whipped this up with what I had on hand. Cooking is so therapeutic for me and I just needed to be in the kitchen for a few minutes before starting work.
  • 12:30 p.m. Lunch at our favorite local sandwich shop. Can’t even blame The Husband for this one. After knocking a crap-ton of things off the to-do, I wanted to get out. I had a ham and turkey sandwich on a ciabatta and split a small fry with him.
  • 5 p.m. 1/2 of a Chocolate Muffin as I ran out the door.
  • 6:45 p.m. Chick-fil-A cobb salad with grilled chicken and a SIP of the kid’s chocolate shake.
  • 8:30 p.m. Crackers, celery and sunflower seed butter — my stomach was growling.
